The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) is a leading national organization representing the interests of over 9crore traders and small businesses across India. Established with the goal of empowering the Indian trading community, CAIT has been at the forefront of advocating for policies that promote the growth and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), retailers, and traders.

With a vast network of over 40,000 trade associations, CAIT serves as the voice of Indian traders, working tirelessly to protect their rights, ensure fair trade practices, and drive policy reforms that foster business-friendly environments.

What We Do

CAIT plays a crucial role in policy advocacy, awareness campaigns, trader education, and business networking. Our core areas of work include:

  • 1. Policy Advocacy & Representation
    • We work closely with the Government of India, State Governments, and regulatory bodies to represent the interests of traders. Some key areas where CAIT has successfully advocated include:
    • Opposing deep discounting and monopolistic practices of e-commerce giants. Pushing for the implementation of a National Retail Trade Policy.
    • Advocating for a simplified Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework. Ensuring that the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policies protect small traders.
  • 2. Digital Transformation of Indian Traders
    • In a rapidly changing business environment, digital adaptation is key. CAIT runs several initiatives to help traders:
    • ‘Digital India for Traders’ Campaign: Encouraging traders to adopt UPI, digital payments, and e-commerce platforms.
    • Partnerships with leading fintech firms to provide easy access to digital financial services. Training programs on e-commerce operations, online marketing, and digital bookkeeping.
  • 3. GST & Compliance Assistance
    • GST has been a major challenge for traders. CAIT provides:
    • Regular workshops & seminars to educate traders about GST updates.
    • Advocacy for simplification of compliance procedures to ease the burden on small businesses. A dedicated GST Helpdesk to assist traders in resolving taxation issues.
  • 4. E-Commerce & Fair Trade Practices
    • While e-commerce has opened new opportunities, it has also posed challenges for traditional traders. CAIT works to ensure:
    • A level playing field between small businesses and big online retailers. Strict enforcement of fair trade practices to prevent market monopolization. Promotion of Bharat E-Marketplace, an indigenous e-commerce platform for Indian traders.

    • To help traders stay competitive, CAIT offers:
    • Workshops and training programs on modern retail management, marketing strategies, and financial literacy. Collaboration with industry experts and institutions to provide skill enhancement opportunities.
