CAIT's Legacy: Championing Traders Since Inception

History of CAIT

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) was established in 1998 following the visionary suggestion of the honorable Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India. Recognizing the need for a strong, unified voice for the trading community in India, Shri Vajpayee encouraged the formation of a national-level organization that would represent the interests of traders, retailers, and small businesses across the country.

Since its inception, CAIT has emerged as a premier national trade body, advocating for the rights and growth of traders and working to create a favorable business environment. With a robust network spanning over 40,000 trade associations and more than 8 crore traders, CAIT has been instrumental in shaping policies, addressing the challenges faced by the trading community, and promoting modern business practices.

Over the years, CAIT has actively engaged with the government, policymakers, and stakeholders to address crucial issues such as ease of doing business, GST reforms, e-commerce policies, digital transformation, and fair trade practices. It has played a vital role in safeguarding traditional businesses while fostering their transition into the digital era.

With a legacy rooted in the vision of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, CAIT continues to champion the cause of traders, ensuring their collective voice is heard at national and global platforms.
